A bathroom refit is a small room with every trade in it. Plumbing, electrics, tiling, plastering, flooring and carpentry all happen in a few square metres, in a sequence, and the finish depends almost entirely on whether that sequence was respected.

How long does a bathroom installation take?

A straight swap in the same layout is the quick version. Moving the toilet or the soil connection, replastering, or finding rot behind the bath all extend it. Ask for the programme in stages rather than one date.

Do you supply the suite and tiles or only fit them?

Both arrangements are normal. Supplying your own gives you the choice and the responsibility if something arrives damaged or short; having the fitter supply usually means they carry that problem instead.

Do fitters handle the plumbing, electrics and plastering?

A bathroom specialist will cover the lot, using their own electrician for the parts that need certifying. Confirm who is doing the electrical work and that you will get the certificate, because you will want it later.

What happens if damp or damaged pipework is found?

It is common in older London property once the old suite is out. It should be raised with you, priced as a variation and agreed in writing before the work is done, not added to the final bill.

Can you work in a small flat or a period home?

Yes, and most of the work here is exactly that. Flats bring leasehold consent and restricted working hours; period homes bring walls that are not straight and floors that are not level.

Is the fitting guaranteed?

Ask the fitter what they guarantee and for how long, and get it in writing with the quote. Suite and fittings warranties come from their manufacturers separately.
